SUMMARY:Will Generation Equality Deliver Women’s Rights?
DESCRIPTION:The event sets the stage for the Generation Equality Forum discussions that will convene on June 30-July 2, 2021 in Paris, France. Speakers will focus on the issues of women’s land rights and economic justice as they unravel in the rural and community contexts.\nSpeakers include:\nMino Ramaroson, who is a rural development specialist and a gender activist from Madagascar.She has worked on issues as varied as micro-finance, education, rural development, gender and land. She is currently working as the Africa RegionalCoordinator for Huairou Commission.\nViolet Shivutse – the Founder and Coordinator of Shibuye Community Health Workers (SCHW)and a regional Kenyan watchdog group, which works with local authorities to enforce land and inheritance rights of women and orphans. For 15+ years, she has provided direct care and support to hundreds of HIV-positive community members. Presently,she serves on the Generation Equality Multi-Stakeholder Committee planningBeijing+25 fora in Mexico, France and UNGAS 2020.\nDr. Maria Jose Moreno-Ruiz is a sociologist,development practitioner, thinker and activist. Marhas worked worked for major development institutions including African Development Bank, theGerman Corporation for International Co-operation,the Latin American School of Social Sciences, and the United Nations Development Programme. She is currently the Director of Gender Justice for OxfamInternational.\nDr. Marc Wegerif is a Lecturer in Development Studies at the University of Pretoria. His research focusses on agrarian transformation, land rights and food systems. He has over 30 years of development sector work experience from project level to national and international policy and advocacy.
